Microsoft on Tuesday announced that customers who purchase, install, and activateMicrosoft Office 2010 or Office for Mac 2011 software between October 19, 2012 and April 30, 2013 are eligible for the free upgrade to Microsoft’s next version of Office program.

In simple words, if you purchase an Office 2010 copy today and activate it, then you can upgrade to Office 2013 for free when it’s available. Please note that you need to keep your Office sales receipt as proof of purchase.

Office Home and Student 2010, Office Home and Student (Military Appreciation Edition available in the U.S), Office Home and Student 2010 (Canadian Forces Edition), Office Home and Business 2010, Office Professional 2010, Office University 2010 are the eligible Office products.

Users who purchase individual Office applications such as Word 2010, Excel 2010,PowerPoint 2010, Outlook 2010, OneNote 2010, Access 2010, Publisher 2010, Visio Standard 2010, Visio Professional 2010, Visio Premium 2010, Project Standard 2010, and Project Profession 2010 are also eligible for the upgrade.

The upgrade offer is based on the Office product you purchase and activate. For instance, if you buy Office Home and Student 2010, you can choose between Office 365 Home Premium (one year non-commercial subscription) or Office Home and Student 2013 (one non-commercial PC license). The offer is available in all countries and regions where Microsoft Office is available for purchase. Please note that the new Office 2013 requires Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating system.

So, when you purchase your Office 2010 copy, install and activate it, and then sign for for an email reminder (visit Office.com/offer). When the next version of Office is available, you will receive an email from Microsoft containing instructions you need to follow to get the new Office.
